Mining Unique, Point-of-Care Data From a Previously Untapped – and Unlikely – Source
Amplion Clinical Communications brings its technology platform to HIMSS18 to underscore the power of data that strengthens hospital care and improves the bottom line

NASHVILLE, Tenn., February 27, 2018 – The quest for value-based care has only intensified.

Since pinpointed in 2012 as healthcare’s new high-performance bar, “value-based care” has become the goal of most U.S. hospitals and channeling actionable data that can deliver on that promise has become the holy grail.

Today, Amplion Clinical Communications finds itself at the epicenter of this transformation from fee-for-service to value-based care.

The Nashville-based healthcare company that began disrupting the ubiquitous nurse call market four years ago has turned it into a tool able to significantly improve the patient care experience.  The IT firm will showcase the power of harnessing point-of-care data to bring hospitals one step closer to true, value-based care in the industry’s newest patient care model – the real-time health system (RTHS) – at this year’s HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) conference in Las Vegas.

In the last few years, RTHS has been trending upwards as more U.S. healthcare institutions implement newer and newer technologies to drive more outcomes-based medical care.

To be located at Kiosk #9900-10 in the HIMSS18 Innovation Live area, Amplion will demonstrate how its data has been able to enhance staff workflow, improve patient care, patient safety and patient experience, while reducing costs -- something hospitals have been pursuing for years.

“We’ve found that the real strategic information that could truly help caregivers and hospitals deliver better care could be found by modernizing the legacy nurse call system,” said Frank Grant, president and CEO, Amplion Clinical Communications.  “By tapping the real-time, point-of-care performance data that occurs bedside, where the legacy nurse call button lives, hospitals can easily and effectively adjust staffing, close care loops, pay greater attention to patient needs and ensure more satisfied employees. It was applying our technology in this previously untapped source of data that helped us identify significant insights for hospital management.”

Amplion combines advanced nurse call, care collaboration tools, alarm management, reporting and data analytics in a single system that tracks, manages and confirms care delivery for patients.  The data delivered through the Amplion Alert platform has given hospitals unprecedented views into how their caregivers are performing in real time, helping leaders dramatically improve the quality and consistency of patient care.

Built upon open source technology, the platform promotes interoperability and eliminates the need for middleware.   Interestingly, it also provides a level of care assurance that has never before been available to hospitals.

First identified by Gartner, RTHS combines new technologies to help hospitals gather and interpret data that is collected bedside and aids discernment that can enhance clinical efficiency, patient outcomes and operational excellence.  Most hospitals use these point-of-care insights to deliver more timely, personalized care to patients, improve communications between patients-nurses-care team members and address staffing shortages, workflow and performance issues.

The company recently authored a free eBook about RTHS titled “Real-Time or Left Behind.”  (Downloadable here)  Grant will also discuss the Real-Time Health System in the Innovation Live Theater at the HIMSS18 conference at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6.

Today, the Amplion Alert platform is in 56 urban, community and health system hospitals in 22 states with 124 million care messages delivered.

“The promise and power of value-based care and the real time health system offer incredible possibilities for hospitals and healthcare teams today,” Grant said.  “And that’s where this technology can make an extraordinary contribution.  Not only can the care experiences of both patients and staff improve because of this advance, but the bottom line should look up, as well.  And isn’t that the true value of innovation in healthcare today?”
