Ambient Clinical Analytics Solutions – Helping Save Lives and Money
Testimonial published of a life saved using Ambient Clinical Analytics Technology. The solution is available to be viewed at HIMSS 2018.

Rochester, MN March 01, 2018 -- Ambient Clinical Analytics announces today that a testimonial of a life saved using the Ambient's AWARE Sepsis DART™ software platform has been featured in the Rock Health Impact Project, an initiative showcasing the impact of digital health technologies on patients. The video describing the events of Kevin Kronmiller’s battle with sepsis can be viewed here.

Recently published research out of Mayo Clinic shows that AWARE, a novel acute care EMR interface that contains built-in tools for error prevention, practice surveillance and decision support and reporting, significantly improves the patient hospital experience and reduces time spent and patient costs in the hospital. After adjusting for patient acuity and baseline demographics, overall in-hospital and ICU mortality associated with AWARE intervention decreased by 7%. AWARE also was associated with a 50% decrease in length of ICU stay and a 30% reduction in total hospital stay charges (by $43,745 after adjusting for patient acuity and demographics).

The video testimonial tells the journey of Kevin Kronmiller, who was diagnosed with liver disease at the age of 22 and was told he had five years to live without a transplant. Kevin beat the odds, but at age 50 a transplant became necessary. Following surgery, Kevin went into septic shock and needed to be resuscitated twice. Having survived liver disease and a transplant, Kevin was now given only a 30% chance of surviving sepsis. Using Ambient's AWARE Sepsis DART™ software, doctors were able to identify the right antibiotics to save Kevin’s life. Kevin again beat the odds, and six weeks later was living a healthy, normal life.

“It is stories like this that validate the mission of Ambient Clinical Analytics” said Allen Berning, Chief Executive Officer at Ambient. “Our software saves lives, and the hospitals that embrace our technology can improve mortality and mitigate patient risk. We’re delighted to learn the outcome of Kevin’s story and to know that he has become an advocate for our product”.

Ambient Clinical Analytics has developed a portfolio of software solutions that change the way critical care providers operate. Using licensed Mayo Clinic technologies, including over 1,000 rules and algorithms, Ambient’s software gives critical care providers real-time access to vital process-of-care information and analytics.

“The amount of patient data in the Intensive Care Units is incredible and places a substantial burden on the acting clinician to make quick and effective patient care decisions while making sense of mountains of information,” said Vitaly Herasevich, MD, PhD, of Mayo Clinic, one of the co-inventors of the technology. “This solution is a real-time EMR dashboard that organizes information the way a clinician processes data in a real-life patient scenario. The software facilitates decision making, reduces stress, saves time, supports workflow and enhances the care process while allowing multiple members of a patient’s care team to be 'on the same page’.”

Mayo Clinic and Dr. Herasevich have a financial interest in the technology referenced in this news release. Revenue Mayo Clinic receives is used to support its not-for-profit mission in patient care, education and research.
