A|D VAULT PROVES VALUE-BASED HEALTHCARE CAN INCLUDE A PERSON’S VALUES
A|D VAULT DEMONSTRATES INTEROPERABLE EXCHANGE OF MEDICAL TREATMENT GOALS AND PREFERENCES, SOLVING A SIGNIFICANT OBSTACLE FOR PROVIDERS AND PAYERS IN THE SHIFT TOWARD VALUE-BASED PAYMENTS

DALLAS – A|D Vault, Inc., announced that it has used Direct Edge protocols and HL7’s FHIR Resources to incorporate a person’s goals and preferences into the medical record. This non-clinical, consumer-generated data is key to helping healthcare payers and providers navigate the shift toward value-based payments.

Participating in the HL7 FHIR Connectathon 14, A|D Vault, its technical partners MaxMD and ZeOmega®, and HL7 CDA expert Lisa Nelson, showed how payers can locate this information, and how providers can use these goals and preferences to support care planning and improve the quality of care.

Personal advance care plans are consumer-generated, updated responses to questions that can give meaningful insight into a person’s values, goals and preferences for medical care. They can also tell medical personnel who is authorized to speak for a person in an emergency.  A|D Vault’s free-to-consumers MyDirectives® and MyDirectives MOBILE™ platforms help people create their own emergency, critical and advance care plans.

A|D Vault and its partners demonstrated how payers can advocate on behalf of their members by making sure providers know that a person’s advance care plan exists and where it can be found. Payers who use A|D Vault’s platform do not get access to the content of a person’s decisions, just the digital address so they can help doctors locate that information in a crisis.  One such payer, Louisville, Kentucky-based health insurance industry leader Humana, Inc. (NYSE: HUM), with over 13 million members, announced its initial work with A|D Vault in early 2015 and subsequently announced its expanded use of the MyDirectives platforms to help certain members get their voices heard in case they have an emergency and cannot communicate. Other payers are expected to follow suit.
