Cardinal Analytx and Premera Blue Cross partner to predict and mitigate customers' high healthcare costs
Companies to present at HIMSS19 on Impact of Machine Learning on Member Engagement, Improved Financials and Better Patient Experiences

PALO ALTO, Calif., and MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash., Feb. 6, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Cardinal Analytx Solutions, a predictive healthcare analytics company, today announced an industry-leading partnership with Premera Blue Cross, a leading health plan in the Pacific Northwest, to use predictive analytics and machine learning solutions to identify and reach out to potential high-risk customers.

Based in Mountlake Terrace, Wash., Premera Blue Cross initially partnered with Cardinal to participate in the design and validation of the first version of Cardinal Analytx's Cost Bloom™ predictions and medical action plans using proprietary, leading-edge machine learning algorithms. After success piloting this solution, Premera is deploying the solution along with additional risk prediction models it helped to design.

"Using advanced prediction and data science with healthcare data is providing new value in healthcare innovation," said Colt Courtright, director of Corporate Data and Analytics at Premera Blue Cross. "By working with Cardinal Analytx, we're able to leverage unique predictive capabilities and bring new solutions to the market that benefit Premera customers."

Courtright added, "Premera is able to identify a customer who appears to be at risk of a significant increase in their medical needs. Premera's care management team can then create a plan to address and potentially mitigate these medical needs, directly with the patient or the provider."

"We are profoundly grateful to Premera Blue Cross for their tireless support and dedicated partnership," said Linda T. Hand, Cardinal Analytx's CEO. "Premera has strategically helped us to advance our vision, refine our value proposition and pressure test new product ideas, which lay the groundwork for other significant health plan clients and pilots that we'll soon be announcing."

On February 12 at 11:45 a.m. in the Personalized Health Experience Theatre at the HIMSS19 Global Conference & Exhibition, in Orlando, Afsana Akhter, chief commercial officer for Cardinal Analytx, and Torben Nielsen, vice president of Innovation for Premera, will be co-presenting on "Deploy Machine Learning to Predict Rising Risk."
